You’ve Got 10 Years—According to Uber’s CEO
“You are not secure. You are not included. But you can be aware. You can prepare. And you don’t have to keep working toward your own disappearance.”
That’s the window. According to Uber’s own CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, human drivers have about a decade left before self-driving vehicles start taking over.
Maybe that sounds like a long time. Maybe it feels like a distant threat. But let’s be clear: Uber isn’t thinking about the future. They’re building it—without you.
In a recent interview at WSJ Journal House Davos, Khosrowshahi said:
“You fast forward 15, 20 years, I think that the autonomous driver is going to be a better driver than the human driver.” ( watch the video here )
Not might be. Will be.
Let that sink in.

A Glimpse Into Uber’s Game Plan
Uber isn’t speculating. They’re investing.
They’re mapping routes. Training AI. Testing self-driving tech in real markets. Even offering drivers other ways to make money—like helping train the very systems that might replace them.
Why? Because human labor is expensive, inconsistent, and harder to control. Autonomous vehicles offer Uber the one thing they crave most: predictability.
Drivers? Not so much.
So what does Uber do in the meantime?
• Dangle promotions.
• Offer alternative tasks.
• Expand into shopping, delivery, and AI training.
Uber calls them “opportunities.”
But ask yourself: Where do they lead?
10 Years of What, Exactly?
Because they’re not designed to grow with you. They’re not stepping stones.
They’re roads that lead nowhere.
Just enough to keep you occupied while automation moves forward without you.
Let’s assume Dara is right—you’ve got a decade.
What do you do with it?
Because this isn’t just about driving. It’s about your business, your future, your livelihood.
• Are you tracking your numbers?
• Do you know your break-even point?
• Do you have a plan beyond this app?
• Are you building something real—something the algorithm can’t take from you?
If not, the clock is ticking.
Uber has a timeline.
You should too.
This Isn’t Doom. It’s Strategy.

The worst mistake you can make is thinking this is fear-mongering.
It’s not. It’s foresight.
Uber is playing the long game. That doesn’t mean you panic—it means you prepare. You make your own timeline. You build your own plan. You work on your business, not just in it.
The question is no longer:
“How long can I do this?”
The real question is:
“What am I doing while I do this?
